We can agree to disagree. I saw the replay and it looked to me that he was running directly down the line and then crossing it to get to the bag, which is completely in fair territory. That’s a whole different story, but it’s physically impossible to run in the “runners lane” from home to first without crossing the base line.
It was a bad call, but in the Cajuns favor, so I was happy about it. God knows, plenty of crappy calls have gone the other way.
Fair enough, I was there in person and didn’t have the advantage of replay. But all I can say is from my point of view, the runner was running down the left side of the line for at least the last 5-6 strides and clearly interferes with the throw. I immediately thought he was out and when the ump made the call it just reaffirmed my own thought. But I looked up the rule just now for exact clarification and it does state that the runner is only allowed to come back in fair play at the very last instant in order to touch the bag. If they interfere with the fielder to make the catch, and stepped even 1 foot outside of the runner lane, the umpire can make a judgement call that they interfered.
Long story short? Screw it, it was a toss up call, and we got A call in our favor for what seemed like the first time all season! Haha
Chipper and Durke throwing the way they are could be the X factor we need in terms of depth. This team is really coming together the past couple weeks. This is really getting fun, hopefully we win the series today!
Brad watched the replay (I didn't see it.) He said the runner was legal.
