Today Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a two vehicle crash on LA 182 at Captain Cade Rd. that claimed the lives of two men.
According to investigating troopers, on March 29, 2010, shortly before 8:00 a.m., a 2000 Dodge truck driven by twenty-one year old Kimberly Courville of St. Martinville was traveling west on LA 182 approaching Captain Cade Rd. A 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling east on LA 182. For unknown reasons Courville crossed the center line. The driver of the Tahoe attempted to take evasive action by steering onto the shoulder but was unsuccessful. Courville’s vehicle struck the Tahoe head-on. After impact, the Tahoe rotated counterclockwise and came to rest in the south ditch.
The driver of the Tahoe and left rear passenger, forty year old Alberto Alcarza of Lafayette, were killed as a result of the crash. They were pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Martin Parish Coroner. Two other passengers in the Tahoe, twenty-three year old Estaban Frausto and thirty-one year old Reginald Garcia both of Lafayette, sustained moderate injuries and were transported to a local area hospital. Courville and twenty-five year old Tavid Norman of New Iberia, sustained moderate injuries and were transported to a local area hospital. The driver of the Tahoe’s identity is being withheld until next of kin can be notified.
Toxicology samples were taken from both drivers and were submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
