For many, we only know one way to coach and that was Robe's way. And, when Deggs goes against what Robe would have done and it doesn't work, suddenly Deggs is clueless.
We have to adapt in the way we look at things, because there's more than one way to look at things.
Here are some examples.
1. Robe bunted. A lot. Some would say too much. Deggs hates to give up outs. He'll sacrifice occasionally, but more often than not, our players will be swinging.
2. Even when it's intended to move a runner, our bunts are usually designed for a base hit.
3. Players NEVER bunt on their own. Deggs calls all the bunts.
4. We are going to get thrown out and sometimes picked off (our SB% so far this year is the best in a long time.) Deggs wants to create chaos. That means taking big leads in order to get a jump. Sometimes it doesn't work. And, that's okay. Because most of the time it does and it pays dividends. (Friday, Marusak walks, steals second, steals third and scores on a ground ball. Early momentum.)
It should be noted (and you've probably heard me say this before), our 2014 team had FIFTY ONE bunt singles. That's just nuts.
Deggs believes the bat is a weapon. And, that's ok. We have a coach who coaches differently. And, that's ok, too.
