I think all here would be happy to hear the opposing viewpoint, I think that's what we were doing when we listened to Scott's interview. I would also suggest that just about everybody here had been very complimentary of Dr. Maggard in his time here and his leadership. I think we were all listening to get that opposing view but instead, the interview was honestly a poor show by Dr. Maggard and either lied or misspoke about a very critical issue that was supposed to be a big reason for their decision. I'd be happy to debate you or any other person who is in favor of the decision.

Otherwise he would not have made the decision he did. I say that in all seriousness. I know many will use history to laugh at that view. It does not matter how many disagree. Key thing is HE believes it. At this stage everything that can be said about this situation has been been voiced. We will start to get an idea who is right come November. However it will be interesting to see if they can bring in a point guard who can help in spring recruiting. We have not had an effective player in that role since Marcus Stroman left in 2019.
Which is why I believe it is completely rational to criticize Dr. Maggard due to the reasons you mention in this post. What I'm not sure we're doing is are we just putting all our eggs in the basket for next year or are we trying to actually build a program? We can go down the rabbit hole of what if's in regards to what happens if they have a great year next year and Marlin's future but I want to know what the end game is.

The end game is we will play basketball next year with The Big Fish as head coach and see how it goes.

The end game is let him finish the contract and move on to next season under new leadership. He was kept simply because he is loyal and a nice guy. From what I am hearing Doc Savoie kept him because he has never embarrassed the university.

It was a poor show because Maggard had to cover for his boss making him keep Marlin.

There is no doubt Maggard had it 75% covered . . .

If it's kill off the basketball fan base for good he is on the right track. Bold strategy to lose another generation of potential ticket holders

Your question is my concern going forward and why I don't agree with the decision to keep Marlin another year. I believe it's motivated by money and not using RCAF dollars to buy a coach out. In fact that is exactly what two RCAF Board members privately stated to several others and myself a week before Dr. Maggard's press release.

If he is selling that Coach Marlin is more likely to win next season than a new coach with the returning roster of athletes and several like Brown decide to play pro basketball then the season will likely implode anyway. To me this decision is just kicking the can down the road and hoping that Coach Marlin is going to catch fire and justify their decision.
