That is reality in a 1 bid league whether you want to face it or not . . .

I believe Hayes is currently the lead assistant at Xavier of the Big 10. He is a Georgia alum. He may think he will be a better candidate the next time Georgia has an opening if he proves he can be successful at a nearby school.

Wonder what salary he will be hired at.

True. Obvious mistake. I obviously knew that. Should have proof read my message.

What is the expiration date of Marlins contract?

Is it possible that Maggard took a casual look at the top candidates and thought…no thanks, I’d rather see what another year brings.

There were signs of that occurring late in the regular season as well as they moved towards that consistent lineup. Hopefully that occurs early next season and only minor tweaks are needed as the season progresses. That is the key to a successful season.
So Mike, do you believe it was the right play to keep old man Marlin around for a swan song at 64? I mean, let's say he manages to win 20 games & still misses the tournament? Or wins 16 games & the team gets into the tournament to go one & done? Should Maggard extend him?

This is my concern. I'd like to know if Maggard even has criteria that must be met to further Marlin's contract into the future or is it just going to be a wait and see subjective decision.

I have no idea what criteria is for a new contract next spring. My guess is a championship in either the regular season or tournament will result in a new deal. 2nd in both may result in a new but not as lucrative deal but I would not bet on it. Anything less is something I will not speculate on. Now coaches and players don’t think like fans. They really believe they can parlay the strong finish into consistent winning play next season.

I was under the impression that the current contract still has the auto extension with either championship and that was the reason to keep things open ended.
