Same as 2019 (5.58 per game). And to your point, that team was 28-31

I think one of the things that frustrates fans the most is their expectation that this program should be in a regional every (or most every) year.

The reality is that its a good program, especially for a non “power” conference school. But it’s not what many people think that it is.

There was a really good run from 1989-1992. There was a great run from 1997-2000. And there was a really good run from 2013-2016.

Besides those special groups, this has been a program that makes a regional every 4-5 years and has about the same number of seasons that aren’t so good.

For example, between the 2000 Omaha season and the nice run from 2013 to 2016, the Cajuns made 4 regionals. They also had 4 losing seasons, and a 5th that ended at 28-28.

History says that what’s going on now is basically what the program has been for the last couple of decades. History also says that another good run is coming…hopefully soon.

The important run to remember is 99’-2016. 18 seasons. 10 regionals. 4 supers. 1 CWS. Never longer than a 2 season gap between Regionals.

That’s the run that got us a new ballpark. That’s the run that got us to selling 4,000+ tickets to every game. That’s the run that got us averaging Top 10-30 in the nation in attendance. At our current pace, the fan support bubble will burst. Telling people to lower their expectations is a dart. I’m not saying Regional every season, but I’ll damn sure say what has happened between 2017 to present is unacceptable.

Sadly for better or worse lots have changed since all those runs. I really think the game has changed that quickly. Everyone is getting better, everyone is putting more resources into their programs, transfer portal, analytics….we need to keep up with the times in order to compete for regional bids.

I keep hearing changing of the times, and I get it. Then I look at La Tech thriving and realize we’ve just gotten worse. The opportunities for G5 at larges are shrinking, but not a damn one of the teams between 2017 and now put themselves in a position to play that card.

Lots of things have changed. Like, a premier facility in the nation. A recognized program with a brand of being a winner throughout college baseball. An ability to schedule some of the nation's top programs year in and year out. An influx of fan support and donations. Consistently in the top 20 for attendance in the nation, even with a 5-6 year down swing in results. I could go on.. There is absolutely no reason we shouldn't be winning here, at a very high level.
