Thread: UL Sports Period!!

  1. Ragin' Cajuns UL Sports Period!!

The athletic department at UL has truly done nothing right since hiring Napier. They keep a basketball coach that is worthless and he's been here for 12 plus years, the baseball program was left in shambles before Deggs took over but it hasn't gotten any better and the softball team is proving that they can't beat a ranked team. It should tell everybody something about the guy that's in charge of the athletic department when his old University that he was with for 20 years didn't even give him the time of day. Mark my words everyone, our athletic department may have a decent budget to work with but they do not have decent coaches.

Take a look at the athletic programs since Maggard has been the athletic director; softball wins their conference but they won't host a regional or host a super regional and they can't beat LSU. And now in the current stage the softball team can't beat a ranked team.

The basketball team is worse; players are leaving the program left and right; the baseball team is just as bad as it's been for the last several years and will soon find out about the football program. But it just doesn't look like we're going to have a very bright future in any of our sports.

While the other universities across this country hold people accountable for the number of wins and the attendance that they have at their games and within their program we don't hold anyone accountable and unfortunately it doesn't look like Maggard and his athletic department is going to be held accountable.

There is absolutely zero fun going to watch any of the sporting events that UL has and we're back to the old days
like it was under Authement. If this University and this athletic department want to be big time and I keep hearing day in and day out then they need to start acting, winning, and holding coaches accountable. They're not ready for the big time in any way shape or form!

What a joke our athletic department has become. You can't put all of the financial eggs in the football basket like Maggard has done and expect basketball, baseball and softball along with the other sports to excel.

Don't think with your heart, use your head to see if you agree with the poor state of affairs the sports programs are in at present.

We've beaten LSU three times in their hosted Regional since Maggard has been AD, twice since Gerry Glasco was hired (if that's what you're trying to get at). Michael Lotief's team met the same fate in the 2017 LSU Baton Rouge Regional that Glasco's teams have met in '18, '19 (Ole Miss) and '21.

Just saying. If you're going to try to make this argument, do it without hyperbole that can be easily crumbled and thrown out with the daily trash.

Unfortunately Cajun fans, Deggs is not the right fit. There is MO EXCUSE for playing and coaching as poor as the baseball team has showed in the first 1/3 of the season. UL baseball has not looked like a competitive team for the last 6 years. How long is this going to last???

13 posts and a member since 12/21....and now this rant. While I agree about accountability, one has to have patience relevent to the current situation. I agree, time for Bob to go...and I've questioned whether Deggs was the right hire or not. I think there is a generational problem with softball, but WTF do I know. Football foots the bill, so it should get a bigger cut of the pie. Unless you've been asleep, no one is going to take the heat for lack of attendance or the sheet show that happens when too few show up to service (food, drink, etc) the too many. Being unprepared should never be accepted. I'll agree that there are some at the complex who are not doing a good job. I don't think Maggard is one of them however...

I'm trying hard to disagree with this, but a lot of it rings true.

….I kinda think that if you are given a facility than the winning is up to the Coach….Football, M basketball, softball, and baseball have been given as OL as it can get …..women’s basketball and volleyball not too sure…..not too sure about the track and soccer…..would like some comments on these….is the estimation about correct?

…..I guess the NIL situation needs to be addressed immediately…….will the coaches be able to call a friend and get big bucks NIL for some recruits……If a kid has it all to be a great player, can we get the NIL situation to be in the same crowd TO A CERTAIN DEGREE??? I recently had a HS reunion was amazed at the wealth in the room……millions of dollars of net worth……so I get 8 guys in basketball and all get $100k….I can win some games!
