Let’s be clear he said he served up A beach ball. I said the same. That he hung a pitch. He did man. It was a fat pitch. Like I said earlier: I think guys were fouling off because Ray had nothing tonight he could get by them to finish an at bat.
As far as the comments on looking lost at the plate, we did man. I can’t speak for the other guy but this happens too much over the last few years where we can’t hit good pitching and it’s just chalked up to “running in to a great arm.”
I posted our error stats in the McNeese thread. That’s something I don’t know what to make of with this team. I heard “regional team” and “strong defense” before the season started. I’ve seen nothing out of our pitching staff that indicates we could win a conference tournament. The defense has been a HUGE let down. This was our 5th straight game with an error. We have been sloppy since the UCI series.
You’re right. We’ve got 2 more opportunities this weekend. I hope we make the most of them. I’m just not sure what to hang our hat on at this point. Our hitting is inconsistent, pitching is thin and not even that great at the top, and our defense is not living up to the hype.
The pattern is pretty easy to see. We don’t have an ace, we are paper thin in the bullpen and we can’t hit good pitching. It’s not that difficult.
We have a handful of really nice players but won’t go anywhere without quality arms.
To be fair to Deggs he didn’t say we lost the game bc of tipped pitches. He was upset with our hitters for not competing at the plate first and foremost. He discussed our pitchers doing pretty well other than some mistake pitches that he credited Troy for capitalizing on. Troy had more runs than hits. He left the interview with Brad saying we are going to get the tipped pitches from the first base box stopped.
I could have summarized the interview better.
Stealing signs in baseball is as old as chewing tobacco and is not cheating. Don't tip your pitches and don't get your signs stolen in the first place.
