I love weekday afternoon softball for the same reason.

It’s another weak team. Southern has not played a great schedule and struggled with it. It’s on the road, but a loss this weekend and more people will be on the ledge of not jump. I may be in one of those groups, but trying to be optimistic.

Many keep using youth as a a reason for some of the recent poor play against higher ranked teams or teams from what is perceived to be in a better conference. So by that do they mean that a single hit up the 5-6 hole that was mis-played by a freshman outfielder would not have been mis-played in a senior outfielder? Or the pop up hit by a freshman with runners in scoring position would have been a double if a senior was up at bat? The UL freshmen are all D1 athletes who have for the most part, played against the best players in travel ball. It isn't like they have lived their whole life down in Pecan Island and never played against the upper tier players. Why has the UL youth been able to smash the ball against the lower tier teams but struggled against the upper tier? Why has UL pitching been dominant against lower tier teams but struggled against upper tier teams? Youth might have been an excuse for the first couple of weeks but this far into the season, it is more than just youth than why the Cajuns have under performed so far in the big games to date. In Game 2 against Texas, it was the youth (Credeur and Hayden) that almost tied the game up for them in the 7th. Maybe the quick hook that Glasco has shown in the big games for players who commit an error or who don't have a good at bat or the pitchers who throw consecutive walks, might have some of them playing timid and looking over their shoulder.

For me, youth does not mean bad, it means inconsistent. I think of youth as a roller coaster ride, there can be really good highs and really bad lows, by the same player. In general, the more experience a player has, their performance is more consistent and usually more consistently higher.

Sanders, Elkins, Talley, Piskos ... ALL were/are better than they were in their 1st year. That doesn't mean they didn't help us win games in their first year, but they were very inconsistent.

Of course you haven't. The freshman on this year's team have been playing games for a month and a half. They will develop. You gave Sanders, a year or two. Will you give these players that much time? Or, do you want immediate success? By the way, Elkins was a transfer. And had a year under her belt.

Elkins had zero (0) homeruns under her belt the 1 season she played at Texas Tech. She graduated high school in December of 2012 and was the Texas Tech starting catcher in February of 2013. She started 42 games and played in 47. She batted .282 the 2013 season with 21 rbi's. She transferred right after the season finished and was available to play in the 2014 season for the Cajuns. She started 59 games and batted .388 with 24 homeruns and had 74 rbi's. That transformation happened in basically 6 months of working with Lotief. 0 homeruns to 24 homeruns and her average increased 100 points. That kind of transformation requires somebody with hitting knowledge to develop them. I don't personally know Coach Glasco or know his credentials when it comes to hitting. Same applies to Lacy. Most hitters have their own hitting coach except for schools like Oklahoma that have an exceptional hitting coach. Why is it that you never hear anybody say "they are young, give them time" about the Oklahoma freshmen when it comes to hitting?

She was not. She was incredible. But, even though she didn't hit a home run at Texas Tech, she had a year's experience in Division one before she got here.

I'll use DJ Sanders as an example again. She hit seven home runs her first year. The next year, I think she hit 29. It took her an entire year to develop.

Mark, I get your point. So, let's use Bailey as an example. She was the best hitter in the nation coming out of high school. In her first bat, at Alabama, she hit a home run. Her first weekend, she hit a total of three home runs. Over the next 50 games or so, she hit six more for a total of nine for the season. I know she was walked a lot, but, she had to develop more to become the player she eventually became.
