The term “showing up” is the problem. It’s an excuse for anyone to feel offended. Either it’s a deliberate action toward someone or it isn’t.
You have umpires claiming that a hitter taking off to first on a close pitch is showing up the umpire. A player watching the hardest ball he’s ever hit in his life can be considered showing up the pitcher. It’s either taunting or celebrating and that makes it very black and white and less gray area.
