Go Cajuns!
The 92-player field will feature six players ranked in the GolfStat Top-100 – the tandem of Sam Bennett (No. 2) and Walker Lee (No. 42) of Texas A&M, No. 21-ranked Anton Albers and No. 91-ranked Magnus Lomholt of Little Rock, Ole Miss' Sarut Vongchaisit (No. 99) and Chad Sewell of Sam Houston (No. 100).
"We are very excited to host the 37th Annual Louisiana Classics this week at Oakbourne," head coach Theo Sliman said. "We have seen a lot of great players and schools throughout the history of this event and this year is certainly one of the best. It is an honor and privilege that these schools have chosen to make the journey to Lafayette and compete in our event."
Freshman Eli Ortego recorded an even-par 72 in both rounds and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns concluded the first day in 14th place overall at the 37th annual Louisiana Classics on Monday at Oakbourne Country Club.
First, looking at the player bio's, these dude come from crazy athletic families.
Second, we should be seeing better results. I know the bio's always find the most positive things to put, but here's what I found.
Dibildox - JUCO All-American (4th in 2021 National Title)
Flynn - 2018 #1 recruit in Louisiana
Dubinski - 2018 #1 recruit in Missouri
Ortego - 2021 #1 recruit in Louisiana
Alford - 2021 #4 recruit in Louisiana
Hinnant - Reached #1 high school ranking in North Carolina
Marler - 2019 #2 ranked golfer in Louisiana
They come in highly ranked and rarely improve.
Caldwell's scores & finishes haven't improved.
Flynn hasn't improved & stayed the same.
Hinnant has been up & down.
Hammet didn't improve while at Mississippi State and his scores are worse at UL.
Dubinksi is the only one that has consistently improved while at UL.
14th place out of 16.....on our home golf course. Being the home team......One would assume our players were supplied a few free adult beverages throughout the day. I do not want to believe we did this poorly sober.
So much for home course advantage.
