From State Fire Marshal H. "Butch" Browning:
A late night fire in West Monroe Louisiana claimed the life of three people inside the building. The Ouachita Parish Fire Department received a 911 call on March 27, 2010 at 22:10hrs that a house trailer located at 606 Washington Street Lot 17 was on fire. First Responders arrived minutes later to find the trailer to be in flames. Firefighters aggressively entered the dangerous burning building to extinguish the fire and found the bodies of three men between the ages of 18 to 28 years old. Investigators are still attempting to determine the identity of these three men. The victims were found in the living room and it was determined that they did not have working smoke detectors in the structure. The State Fire Marshal's Office in cooperation with the Ouachita Parish Sheriff and Ouachita Parish Fire Department is conducting an investigation as to the reason this tragic fire started and to understand the circumstances that led to such a large loss to life in this community. The investigation will continue into the preceding days as the Parish Coroner has ordered autopsies to be performed at the Little Rock Crime Lab. In addition, Investigators from the agencies will be reconstructing the fire scene to collect evidence that will help determine definitive reasons for the fire. State Fire Marshal H. "Butch" Browning expressed his offices sorrow for the deaths that occurred in this home and reminds Louisiana citizens that you must have working smoke detectors that you test monthly and replace the batteries annually to ensure you and your family is protected. He further encourages families to consider upgrading to the new technology of the 10 year lithium battery smoke detector for even better performance and detector's operational life.
