BB G3: Louisiana 2, Southern Miss 4

USM has 14 regional appearances including the last five in a row, and a trip to Omaha in the last 19 seasons. They look like a regional team this year to me. I used to think of them as a baseball program with similar success rate. They did miss five regionals in a row after the transition from Corky Palmer. We have missed 5 in a row, well 4 really with 2020 cancelled. They should be a good comp for us. We are not there yet.

Not sure when we, as a fan base, started giving ourselves gold stars for "being close" against ranked teams, for "having better athletes", etc. Don't get a "W" on the schedule for those. The flippant, "it's early, we'll get there". What? You produce from Game 1. You don't produce, it's on to the next guy.

There is clearly a much improved talent pool on the field, but where are the results? I want this program to succeed as much as anybody, and performance can flip in an instance. It's been done plenty of times before-but it is time for it to flip.

I HATE to give any other school credit, but for those that watched this series this weekend, what USM showed... how they played...that is what a UL team used to be on the field and what we should be year after year.

AT THE PLATE: They never went away..took advantage of opportunities they were given...grind out at-bats...timely hitting...intensity at the plate...barrelling balls...playing with confidence and swagger...wore down our staff...battled battled battled

ON THE MOUND: Warriors on the mound...charged our hitters...command and control with velocity and movement...changed speeds...worked DEEP into games...Saturday guy (Farquhar twin) was spectacular...Sunday starter had big league stuff and dared our guys to hit it.

Those are the type of performances we expect to see and have seen in years past.

Don't look now but watched Texas State last night-- they are 10-3 now-- lost a one run game to Texas.. They play alot like USM,, it won't be pretty in San marcos unless we improve alot

It won't be pretty in the Sunbelt in the future if we don't turn this thing around. Enter S. Miss, Old Dominion, and James Madison. South Alabama, Coastal, Troy, Ga. Southern, and Texas St all have given us fits in the past. It's about to get real. Real fast. This won't get any easier. Not sure what the answer is but things need to be figured out soon or this will just be a middle of the road team in an about average conference.

So did I. And they are good. Now, they were playing at home….lots of energy in the stadium with the number 1 team in the country in the house. But they are very good. Id expect them to be at the top of the conference

2. This has been an historically very good baseball conference.
3. The conference is getting better as is (see Tx St and Troy), was already full of quality clubs (see LA, Coastal, South Al, Ga Southern), and will get MUCH better next year (see USM and ODU).
4. We are not a mediocre baseball team. It’s the second week in march, we’ve played an incredibly difficult schedule and we’re still figuring out who we can trust. Haven’t even finished OOC play.

I guess I’m saying, the sky isn’t falling.

I agree.

We want good teams in our conference and we want to be successful. I happen to think both things are going to happen.

This isn't football where you can win every game. There are pitfalls along the way. But there will be a tomorrow.

Our conference was better in the past. The 6th or 7th rated conference. Lately we have been the 10th-11th rated conference and a 1 big league. I do agree some schools have gotten better outside of UL, Coastal, and South Al. If the mid to lower schools keep improving with the addition of S Miss … its gonna be a dogfight to win the conf championship. I hope that makes us at least a 2 bid league moving forward.
