Offensively we hitting .196 with 63k and 26 walks in 219 AB’s. Thats 9 strike outs per game. So thats 3 innings a game we are non productive in the batters box. Basically gives us 18 AB’s the rest of the game to be productive at the plate. With that being said, if the strike outs stay that high we had better start walking more and figure out how to become clutch hitters. We gotta find ways to make productive outs rather than striking out. If we dont get on first base we take away our biggest offensive tool at this point which is our speed. Oh, and we cant get picked off every other game either.
This team lacks any All-World walk workers like Cantrelle. We are getting out walked 26-34. We hit 10 batters and got hit 6 times. Net -12 free baserunners, almost two free runners per game.
And how many of those free baserunners have come in to score?
I haven’t seen enough video of this years team to make a fair assessment, are we just not good or are we extremely inconsistent? Follow up, is UC Irvine overrated? I’m trying to be optimistic, but this weekend felt like a massive disappointment, with some questionable decision making from Deggs?
We will know by this time next week if this was a fluke or the continuation of medocracy since opening day 2017.
I won't call him by name but we are in year 2 of the lefty experiment. I have not seen a player get so many chances and perform so poorly-- and still get thrown out there. If I was his parents I would NOT want him to go out there-- the entire team knows he cant throw strikes.. even Robe knew that eventually he could not use a 100 mph right hander who could not command the strike zone. Sorry for the player-- but if you can't throw strikes - you can't pitch at this level. Not the only problem with this team-- and could care less its "only 7 games".. my question is "when"? There are some good players on this team-- but they most don't play good-- and defensively some questions,, not to mention lack of timely hitting( or not at all) like Sunday after the 5th inning or so. Deggs talking Regional and Omaha level talent on this team- still waiting to see it. Off soap box..
Dare someone to say UCI to be a little overrated. I said it after the series and got crucified for it. Lol. Some people think they an Omaha team. I dont. But to answer your question we have been our own worst enemy in my opinion. We havent helped ourselves on the mound and have given everyone a chance to win. Walks, balks, hit batters, and falling behind in the count. Offensively alot of strikeouts, baserunning mistakes, missed signals, and not enough clutch hitting. Therefore that has made us inconsistent.
Not talley-- the other lefty
