  1. UL Tennis Win Streak Up to 10 for Men's Tennis Following Win at Southern Miss

The No. 39-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Tennis team picked up the doubles point, grabbed the first singles win and went on to cruise past Southern Miss, 6-1, on Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex in Hattiesburg, Miss.

The win was the 10th consecutive for Louisiana (11-1), representing the program's longest win streak since the 2014 won the exact same amount. The run of success dates back to Jan. 28 at Cajun Courts.

The Ragin' Cajuns also continued the program's best start to a season in the 2000s era and concluded a perfect run through a February-long series of road outings that took the team from Houston (Feb. 5-6), to Lubbock, Texas (Feb. 11-12), to Corpus Christi, Texas (Feb. 18-19) to Saturday's outing in Hattiesburg.

Louisiana was never in danger of falling behind USM (2-4) as Calin Postea's quick 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles opened up a 2-0 match lead.

Shortly after the Golden Eagles got on the board the Ragin' Cajuns put an end to the potential outcome of the afternoon contest as Oriol Fillat Gimenez and Karlo Kajin scored wins on Court 3 and Court 1, respectively.

Fillat Gimenez continues to be a driving force for head coach Luc Godin's squad as he posted his ninth consecutive win in singles play, improving to 10-1 at No. 3 singles.

In clinching the doubles point, the No. 1 tandem of Kajin and Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 6-4 on the season.

The new ITA rankings will come out tomorrow and I would suspect that their will not be a ton of movement for the Cajuns as they have only played one match since the last rankings last week and it was against a so-so team. So hopefully the Cajuns will at minimum stand pat. The following week the Cajuns have 2 matches, one is their first conference match vs Coastal and then an interesting matchup vs UNO. UNO is 10-1 on the season but has not played nearly the schedule the Cajuns have. Of their 10 wins they have beaten Lamar, Alcorn State twice, Prairie View A&M, Jacksonville State, Nicholls, Loyola, Jackson State, The Citadel and South Carolina State. Their only loss was vs Rice 6-1, who we defeated earlier in the season. Coastal is 5-5 on the season, but has lost to a number of really good teams including Duke, Clemson, Wake Forest, UNC-Wilmington and Charlotte. Their best wins have come over Campbell, UNC-Greensboro and Kennessaw State. So their are a lot of unknowns about our next two opponents, specifically Coastal who has been beaten by the good teams on their schedule and beaten the teams they were supposed to. I truly see the Cajuns winning both of the next two matches, but they could be much closer than I would expect.

The Cajuns have a couple of conference matches late in the season that I am really looking forward to. USA, Troy, Georgia State and UTA in conference are going to be fun, specifically USA who has been one of the better SBC teams over the last few years.
