Thread: UL Needs

Williams and Labato both are new to college coaching. Labato has the one stint at UL and Williams experience is mostly European pro, I'm told. Dixon has a proven track record, Fla. and UNO before they self distructed and joined the high school league. If you think about it the last five years we have had a head coach who was an assistant coach and an assistant coach who was a high school coach running the program. Look at our record. Now, we have a head coach who is really a head coach and we need assistants who are really div 1 level assistants.

I'll be excited if we only have 3 guys from louisiana on a roster if we win 25 games every year. Hell, when we were really good in the 70's how many of those guys were from Louisiana? _
    Thats 40 years ago bro!!!

Dixon also talked bad about the coaching staff the whole season. You can not have a guy like that around. So when things go wrong you gotta know that your own staff sticks with you and not against you.

You need a person, that can rellate to these players. A guy that knows the community, a guy that has the coaches back at all times. Be loyal or go home!

Those three guys will bring in a 1000 fans by themselves every home game. _
I hate to disagree with you but the past 2 years the team was full of local players and the attendence was horrible on UL standards. Gary, Daigle, Batiste, and Mitchell are all local players from Lafayette. Wallace, Gradnigo, Bureau, Andrews, Bloom, Johnson, Roberson, and Lago were all recruited within 2 hrs of Lafayette. We have better attendence when we win!

none of those local guys were all staters, none averaged close to 20 or more a game like all those guys...

Dude, you are comparing kids in high school and assuming they will project well at the D-1 level. Wallace was a 3 star recruit when he signed, Gradnigo was all state and a 3 star recruit and Bureau almost signed with LSU as he was a prolific scorer and all stater. What does the PPG or awards these kids get in high school have anything to do with the type of player they will or could be at the next level?

My guess he is not in the mix.

Agree totally. Andrews was an all stater but a no star recruit. With the right coach he could shine for us. As a freshman he handled the role of point guard for us with the attitude of an upper classman. He took the responsibility nightly of guarding the best scorers the SBC had to offer. If I recall correctly the win at SMHS came after Lee finally decided to play him and put him in to guard Cavill. In stopping him it allowed us to get back in the game. So he was never ranked but I am so glad someone on the past coaching staff found him he is definately a D1 player. Hope this new staff brings some more "basketball players" like him to ULL. And not just athletes who play basketball.
