For what it’s worth this early we are at #3 this morning in the RPI.

Check out #5. Now that was a win-win series.

BTW, after our great win last night I was too wired to go to bed, so I watched the end ouf UCI against USD (U of San Diego not the dollar) and Church is starting to find his groove. Well, he got a few hits but that is because the USD 2nd baseman didn't play him close to the bag like we did. He hit it to the same spot. Anyway, they looked good against USD and got a nice win, which is good for us.

As for its worth at this point, consider this ...

Had UC Irvine not played San Diego State last night, the Cajuns would not have an RPI ranking in the Top 100. Meanwhile, Irvine would be higher than #5.

Because Irvine played a game last night (and won), the Cajuns' OWP is .9175 (Irvine's contribution to the Cajuns' OWP is 1.0000). Had Irvine not played a game last night (or lost), the Cajuns' OWP would be a paltry .1675.

Now after the first conference weekend series ... that is when the RPI likely begins to have some limited meaning. Connectivity metrics will yield a clue.

One thing about having played UC-Irvine ... it will increase the Cajuns' connectivity as it pulls in a region that tends to square off more against itself, as compared to other regions.

I watched the entire game. Rough sledding for Irvine in the first few innings (and trailed going into the B 2nd). But they kept getting out of jams where the Aztecs should have pushed across runners. The Irvine then got the offense going and kept "tacking on", until blowing it wide open in the 7th.

    Man, you simply amaze me!

Do you see this as it happens, or after running calculations? It sure sounds like you see it happening!

You have been a tremendous help to our diamond sports as they have adapted their scheduling based on your points, whether they admit it publicly or not.

Kind of like the mutts...swept Wichita State, who also lost to Oklahoma. 3-0, but RPI in the mid 100's. Way too soon to be meaningful, but it's fun.

It's early, but at least a buzz is around the team. Need to clean up some things and be a player on the national stage when we have the opportunity.

No, nothing to be amazed about (but thanks). Simple math in the head (even before coffee) and understanding at the implementation level how it works.

I rarely run the full calculations (interpolation typically suffices) and definitely not until the RPI has meaning (as far as the RPI can have meaning) later in the season.
