The WP for 1.4 wins and 1.3 losses.

And the reason total games is important ... if you are a team that has a WP over .5000 (striving for postseason play), it is more advantageous (for example) to win a game at home and lose on the road (if you are to win one and lose one) vs. the converse. IOW, having 0.7 wins and 0.7 losses is better than 1.3 wins and 1.3 losses.

You lost me on that last scenario. Can you explain?

So 1.4 divided by 2.7. Got it

One interesting thing (if I'm reading this right) is, if you get swept at home in a 3-game series the rating "system" says you played 3.9 games.

If you sweep a home series you played. 2.1 games.

... If I'm reading this right.

Precisely. Of course, an exact balance of home and road contests on a played schedule would precisely yield the number of games played.

If your WP is over .5000, a result yielding 1.3 wins and 1.3 losses is more damaging than 0.7 wins and 0.7 losses. It does more to bring your WP closer to .5000 than the 0.7 wins and 0.7 losses scenario. The opposite is true for WP under .5000. But teams with a WP under .5000 are not competing for post-season play (where RPI comes into play as being important). As such, if you are playing two games (one home and one road) and your WP is over .5000, winning the home game is more important than winning the road game.

Check out #5. Now that was a win-win series.

BTW, after our great win last night I was too wired to go to bed, so I watched the end ouf UCI against USD (U of San Diego not the dollar) and Church is starting to find his groove. Well, he got a few hits but that is because the USD 2nd baseman didn't play him close to the bag like we did. He hit it to the same spot. Anyway, they looked good against USD and got a nice win, which is good for us.
