Melvin White waited patiently for his opportunity to make a big play for UL's football team, sitting out as a freshman in 2008 to become academically eligible before finally seeing his first action last year.
White was in the right place at the right time in the final minutes of Saturday's spring game at Cajun Field and made the most of his good fortune. The junior cornerback scored on a 35-yard interception return with 3:36 left in the defense's 32-10 win over the offense after tipping a Brady Thomas pass intended for Ross Goodlett to himself and sprinting into the end zone.
