You have to go back a ways to find a tougher opening weekend opponent (this team is better than the Texas team we hosted a few years ago.) UCI was one game away from Omaha last year. They have seven starters back on offense and their top two arms and top reliever. They also have one of the country's best defensive teams.

Nathan Church had 100 hits last year and is a pre season All-American. This team hit in the clutch last year, hitting .323 with runners on and .353 with the bases loaded. They were .330 with runners in scoring position and .309 with two outs. All of those are impressive numbers.

I expect RHP Michael Frias to start on Friday and LHP Nick Pinto on Saturday. Sunday may be a newcomer.

I'm interested to see how we measure up against these guys. They're really good.

Deggs said on Monday he would name the weekend starters on Thursday. Unless something has changed, I expect Drew Shifflet to start on Friday and Chipper Menard on Saturday. No clue as to Sunday. Deggs said everyone would be on a pitch count and he expected to throw 9-12 pitchers this weekend.
