  1. Track & Field Daigle Sets Two Program Records at McNeese Invitational


    Louisiana Track and Field freshman Sophie Daigle set new program-best marks in the women's 3k and the mile to pace the Ragin' Cajuns at the McNeese Invitational on Friday.

    Daigle topped the podium in the mile with a time of 4:58.02. The mark broke the previous best time of 5:00.42 set by Lindsay LaGarde in 2018.

    The freshman finished the invitational by taking down a seven-year record in the 3k with a time of 9:58.81. Daigle bested a 10:05.45 mark set by Ashley Irwin.

    Earlier this season, the Donaldsonville, La. native broke Irwin's program-best time in the 5k with a time of 16:58.55.

    On the women's side, six other Louisiana athletes earned top five finishes on Saturday. Freshman Ivana Cecchetti began the meet with a second place result in the pentathlon after totaling 3,055 points.

    Junior Broklynne Wilson placed fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 14.93m. Marin Barras fell just outside the top five with a throw of 14.79m. Barras was able to claim a top five finish in the shot put with a mark of 12.27m.

    The Ragin' Cajuns notched a two-three finishes in the 800m as Maria Bravo-Garcia (2:20.06) and freshman Haley Salsbury (2:20.69) earned podium spots, respectively.

    Freshman Cammi Martinez closed out the notable results with a mark of 3.65m in the pole vault. Martinez has finished in the top five of the event in each meet this season.

    On the men's side, 12 athletes notched top five results with Ragin' Cajuns sweeping the podium in the heptathlon, the mile and the 800m.

    Junior Chandler Mixon (5,260) beat out fellow roster mates sophomore Gavin Jaime (4,082) and freshman Luke Benoit (3,831) to claim first place in the heptathlon.

    Freshman Batiste Dupre led the mile finishers with a time of 4:21.86. Dupre was followed by Louden Boudreaux (4:21.93) and Peyton Chiasson (4:23.50).

    In the 800m, freshman Joe Patterson (1:55.40) claimed the top podium spot with Dupre (1:55.83) taking second and freshman Jimmy Harris finishing third (1:57.23).

    After finishing 5th in the season-opening meet two weeks ago, junior Matthew Standridge placed first in the pole vault clearing 4.75m.

    Freshman Tyren Hannah earned the final top-five result with a 17.14m mark in the weight throw.

    Louisiana will be back in action Friday when the team travels to Baton Rouge, La. to compete in the Bayou Bengal.

    I wish they would write separate stories for separate programs.

    They never had this problem when Lady Cajuns were their own focus entity under the Ragin' Cajuns umbrella.
