My brother had his baby's baptism a few weeks ago. The church he attends has a capital fund raising campaign going on and at the front of the alter was a big campaign board showing the goal and where they currently are in achieving that goal. Every page of the church bulletin plastered the goal.
Fundraising 101
I remember when St. Pius was building the new church they had a big sign on the corner of kaliste saloom and E. bayou pkwy. I passed it daily and you could see how much they needed and how much was raised to the day. Guess what? They had a new church the next year. crazy how that works.
Aside from UL Football, there is nothing Ragin or Cajun about game days in CF...and to make that turn to being Ragin and Cajun would cost so little and make a huge impression on the casual fan...pennys per fan in fact...
Again, it's penny's to launch a asking campaign, penny's. Ideas cost nothing...like this one...
The Cajun Concrete Club...donate up to $100 towards building stadium, get a red "Hardhat" with a Cajun logo on it to wear in stadium while construction is go in on...cheap, creative, compelling, and $100 won't break many banks...its a call to action!
Have to ask WHY Lafayette does not care? Maybe its the administration that puts a stranglehold on athletics, thinks like a small time university, and puts no money into athletics. Everything MAT posted is right on target. We finally achieve the academic status we have been seeking only at the expense of athletics. Instead of having the complete package of a major university, we remain a small time, G5 program. Unable to realize and take the window to the world approach, we cut back as we always do and everything falls back to a state of mediocrity. We had everything going for us, a Top 20 program, national recognition as Louisiana and Tier 1 academic status to continue to build on. Instead, we took a giant step backwards, not in the coach we selected but in our failure to fund and market. We have one of our own, a UL football great as our coach, he is from Acadiana, he is a Cajun and we need to market the hell out of that, properly fund athletics and finish the stadium project as part of our campus building and beautification. Athletics will never become self-supporting unless the university first invests in it. We keep doing things ass backwards. Do that first and we will recoup our investment once we achieve success and our fans and alumni buy into it.
Cajun Field delay is on T-Joe and Martin Hall not committing to athletics while the athletic department reacts passive aggressively to it all.
The old grey lady is no longer legion field
Thank you for bringing this up.
Our "cheap, disloyal, sucky, disinterested" fans in the diamond sports sure didn't have a problem paying pretty high prices (comparatively speaking, of course) when the new stadiums were being discussed and into today. Our "suck ass" fans didn't have a problem opening their wallet to Lotief & Robe when it came to donations for even the most basic ____ that Martin Hall wouldn't pay for. Our "horrible" fans sure don't have a problem showing up in droves on the road when our (usually) nationally relevant diamond sports are playing elsewhere. Our "loser" fans don't struggle to sell out of season tickets, DESPITE 7 year hiatus from postseason play (in baseball's case).
There is a reason for that. Tony built baseball. The Lotief's & what's her name built softball, DESPITE Martin Hall or the athletic department. OUR SUCK ASS fanbase built those pearls, and that's why the fanbase is so strong, participatory, loyal, gracious, mostly trusting and supportive of the diamond sports.
