Regardless if its about NIL or just a scholarship offer, those kids had to be contacted and let them know they have a place there. Unless you believe Garner and Torrence just didnt want to be here and entered the portal together, with no place in mind. It ALL starts with Napier. Am I upset because I didnt think this would happen? Absolutely not. I said this would happen. Its upsetting because if Napier gave Des the recommendation to "continue" what we had going, then systematically pillages the compound of our best coaches, staff, and players....thats sh__y. Its like, "hey buddy, Im handing you the keys to the kingdom!" "Oh, by the way, Im taking the kingdom with me.....but you can have these keys." Whats most damaging is that you did that to a coach with zero ties and contacts outside this university. I feel bad for Des. Do I get it? Yes. Its just the way it is now? Yes. Its still sh__ty to do to someone you were were supposedly trying to help. If this is "just business" and thats what he was gonna do, dont recommend Des. Recommend a guy like himself that had the experience, the tools and the contacts to be able to do what he did here.
That's why you never let the guy leaving pick his replacement. Plain and simple.

And if Billy Bob Gator is such a good evaluator of talent to intuitively know just who a coach wants, Bill Bob Gator needs to be hired as the recruiting coordinator for that school.
Exactly my point that many seem to be missing. Billy, or some third party directed by Billy, would have to let it be known, that Garner and Torrence, are players we want. THEN, those people, in some form or fashion, let Torrence and Garner know that they are wanted by Florida, and here is the scholly, or NIL deal, or both, that are on the table. Then said players enter the portal. Do any of you believe those guys dont want to be here and just both decided to enter the portal together? Maybe. Do any of you think said players didnt have any idea of a scholly or NIL deal on the table before entering the portal? Its pretty naive to believe that. Can it be proven? Not likely. And that is why they do it. Which again makes the Des recommendation from Billy so sh__y.

"No way was Napier gonna recommend him for the job, then not help him be succesful". Remember? Telling people to stop bringing up these concerns?
This is where I’m starting tho come down. Des got the job to keep cohesiveness at the recommendation of Napier. That was the hiring strategy Maggard went with and it makes sense.

Yet subsequent to that, Napier has, in my opinion, wrecked that cohesiveness by taking coaches, staff, and likely now star players. That certainly calls into question the hiring strategy. I’m not saying it was the wrong strategy and it won’t turn out to be the right one. I do believe in Mike but it’s starting to look like his mentor is putting him in a difficult position to succeed.

I would love to know what Maggard’s honest thoughts on all this.

EDIT: Meant to quote the jeweler’s previous post, not the one quoted above.

The timing of their decisions and when coaches knew seems important to know.

In most employment situations, there are non-compete and no-tamper clauses. By no tamper, if someone gets a higher up position at another company, that person can't "raid" his former employers staff and employees for a agreed amount of time. Anyone ever hear of those being applied to head coach contracts?

While we are on the subject of transfer portal, it was just announced that Grant Wells (starting QB at Marshall vs UL in the New Orleans Bowl) has announced that he has entered the transfer portal.

Life is a soap opera. We put way more drama into things than need be, be it sport, politics or religion. I remember feeling like ____ for a long time after those beat down from the mutts awhile back. Thinking that was the end of the Cajuns as a D1. Times are different. We are a different program. We are a nation program and a national brand now. ESPN is not gonna let us fail. Just gotta stay grounded and believe it'll all work out

So, we get any of the 4 or 5 other guys discussed here as HFC instead of CMD and what is happening now does not happen?

What if Napier supported Dez so much, so he could take Toney.

The problem is at UL we don't have enough money to pay the bills much less offer NIL deals. We need all the RCAF money to try and stay afloat.

    Yeah, this.

    Made the point earlier.

Or maybe Tony Chachere's or Tabassco can start sponsoring NIL contracts with recruits.
