Thread: Football- Move National Signing Day Back to Feb

UL Football Football- Move National Signing Day Back to Feb

The mid-December early national signing day is not good for college football IMO. Its interfering too much with the late season. Can't see how its benefiting the players that much either. The sport is better off having one national signing day either first Wednesday in February or last Wednesday in January at the earliest. Let's complete the season first.

It benefits the G5 so much more than February. Prevents p5 teams from late raiding like they do in February.

They should do early signing 2nd week of August and then national signing day in Feb… if you sure of your commitment sign before the season and eliminate coaches from cutting and running.

I think we definetly benefit from this.

A good idea. That would be an improvement, too.

It is in December so that late blooming seniors and those playing at highly competitive schools can get another season in . . . it is highly improbable that the December signing date will move . . .

This is the best solution in my opinion as well. The December JC signing period would remain in place, as it has been for years.

Early signing day isn't ruining anything. It’s actually helping more than it’s hurting.

The Transfer Portal in its current form and NIL is what’s wrong with everything in college sports.

  10. UL 1984, 1999 . . . . Re: Football- Move National Signing Day Back to Feb

One time transfers with no penalties is fair. The next time costs them their red shirt or a year of eligibility. I don’t believe it’s fun for the coaches and fan base unless it’s someone not earning their scholarship. They’re fine when they can use the scholarship for a recruit or transfer helping the team.

NIL? This pushes the players interest a bit far. In 99% of the cases they would never get that without fans allegiance to the schools. In general, in spite of the circumstances, it seems fair as well. Just don’t get fat headed, you’re trading on the universities good will.

So, college sports were perfect before the transfer portal and NIL?

Transfer portal has helped the G5 more than the P5. NIL is a huge plus for the P5.

When college sports started becoming really big time money makers is when things started going south. There isn't one thing that can be pointed to. It is was a pebble that started rolling down a snowy mountain that became an avalanche.

You do have to sit out a year after your second transfer going forward. Exceptions were made this year due to it being a new rule.
