I believe what you will see is two fold:
a) "Coached up" 3-stars" portaling out.
b) "Talent Graveyard" 5-stars portaling in.
It is not the public aspect, nearly as much it has been become acceptable or seen as being a good corporate citizen to do. This will bring even more money into the sport.
The question becomes do more players take money over playing time. This applies to both directions of the portal. Does the 3rd string lineman at UT leave $50k for potential playing time at a G5? Does a starting and impactful G5 player leave for NIL money and more exposure, but potentially less playing time?
I personally think the truly competitive-minded players will always choose playing time. It makes identifying the right people for your program even more important. There will be plenty of money 'thrown at problems', but just like real world business, that strategy rarely works.
It has become a semi-pro league just like college basketball. The stipend addressed the need to help financially. Corporate sponsorship, the NIL is compensation while supposedly playing a amateur sport.
As the top of the P5 continues to separate because of the amount of Corporate money supporting them and their athletes, the NCAA will eventually return to two separate divisions again.
If this continues, I will support athletics less financially because the athletes are getting paid. As in any investment, I will expect a dividend check at the end of each fiscal year.
