Go to 1:52. As soon as Wilson comes into the tv view you can see him looking up to find the ball and time the hit. While he’s doing that the returner is making his FC waive and also moving toward Wilson. As soon as Wilson turns back to the returner they are almost together. Wilson’s reaction was probably to lower his head. This play isn’t dirty. It was unfortunate and I’m glad no one was hurt.

Here is what I saw, and think happened.

Fair catch was called.
JW saw the fair catch and slowed up.
Marshall player gets a slight bobble.
JW sees this and launches for the bobble, expecting it to be a fumble. This is the catch interference, because the ball isn't fumbled yet and he is interfering with the catch.
The launch turns into a targeting call, also the correct call.

Was it a dirty play, I don't think so. I don't believe there was any intent there, but I am not in the guy's head.

I saw the kick on Trahan real time and was incensed. Every bit of body language on the Marhsall O-lineman was that it was intentional. After the kick, he was so nonchalant about the jog to the sideline.

Marshall was trying to start crap early on. Resulted in sportsmanship penalty on #9 after he threw a head butt after a great defensive play.

In any case I’m not happy that we got the penalty. Let’s go ahead from the stupid over thinking this young mans motivation. He had less than a quarter second to make a decision.

And his jubilation isn’t a problem.

JW is not a dirty player and the play was not dirty. Didn’t see the waive and lowered his head at the wrong time, while the returner seemed to be advancing the football. It happens.

If any team was dirty, it was the team in green. MANY times last during the game, they pulled BS stunts, like kicking Trahan in the head after his pick. Or the automatic machine gun gestures toward our sidelines. Marshall fans are salty and sawft. Sour grapes keeping this stupid accusation alive.

And yes, the officiating in that game was atrocious.

Dirty may be the wrong word. It was definitely aggressively physical, which is football. I was ok either way. That entire game was physical. Both teams played raw.

You are correct, the officiating was very bad, as it has been all year. Marshall committed several late hits which were not called. The most satisfying was when Snyder gave the timeout sign to the obnoxious coach.

Glad for Nate to have a great game and yes; that was awesome.

Their sideline was insufferable as were many of their fans that we encountered throughout the weekend. I have a whole different view of the program than I did before.

The player gave the FC sign rather late. That's why some of you thought he didn't give it. It was clear...it was just late.

I'm not convinced JW saw the signal given.

Targeting was the correct call, although fewer than ten years ago we would have called that "football."

Remember how bitter things were vs. Arky State. Then Billy came and said "we don't talk to the other team." The game wasn't five plays old before the Marshall players started talking ____.

Too bad we won't be playing them all that often. This could be a real rivalry.

I’ve been saying this. They failed to move the sticks the entire 4th quarter. Louisiana took over after that hit.

Well maybe things changed during the hit. We became aggressive and focused. They became whatever they’ve been all year, undisciplined.
