Been giving this some thought. We lucked into Napier on a last minute phone call. Glasco is maintaining making regionals. Deggs about the only right hire due to timing, baseball hasn’t seen post season for awhile. Volleyball, soccer...what’s changed? Both basketball coaches extended but neither setting the world on fire, one NCAA between them ~20 years combined? T&F, individuals has had their moments. Tennis, golf, bottom half of league more often than not.

So if we pay someone in the lower half of the conference scale, it’s ok to suck?

Other than football, softball and an Olympic pole vaulter, what has UL Athletics done post season NCAA wise lately? It’s not just a basketball thing, unless that’s the plan.

And some got the joneses over men’s soccer. Another freaking sport we’re so far behind in last place is a given. Marshall is only good because a benefactor pumps millions into the program. MILLIONS in a sport that usually draws under 2k unless the opposition is ranked team

    Oh yeah, we can waterski!!!

Love my Cajuns, but my goodness. Not a lot to be excited over when the vermilion colored glasses are removed.

Houston used a late rally to put away the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team. The Cajuns fell to 6-2 this season.

We hired Degs over Geuatreaux because he was close to the program... imagine hiring Dez over Lanning for the same thing... vomit

And all this time we thought Dr. Maggard was a great AD . . .

He did give Marlin an extension so...

Maggard is an excellent administrator. I’m sure there are reasons he’d never discuss in public on some decisions. Covid was a nightmare administratively. We are blessed to have him. But we, as fans, are not happy with MBB and the usual excuse is what he gets paid; we should demand better. My point is simple…who, if anyone out there, ever hired anyone to be mediocre? Same applies to coaches. I’m sure Maggard doesn’t have that mindset. But it’s hard to bust a coach middle of the pack when staff peers finish at or near the bottom. Money I’m sure is an issue for non revenue sports. But it didn’t mean accept less in performance.

Anything less than a championship season/NCAA appearance is irrelevant. Be it 2nd place or last, if you’re not making it to the NCAA’s you’re ULMOST making it.

This surely appears to point fingers high and wide and is surely not limited to basketball.

The last extension was earned by contract. Nobody was trying to poach Marlin. The prior contract extension was also created by performing. I’d say Marlin clearly has a top tier agent.

Last years extension had nothing to do with performance.
