And all this time we thought Dr. Maggard was a great AD . . .
Maggard is an excellent administrator. I’m sure there are reasons he’d never discuss in public on some decisions. Covid was a nightmare administratively. We are blessed to have him. But we, as fans, are not happy with MBB and the usual excuse is what he gets paid; we should demand better. My point is simple…who, if anyone out there, ever hired anyone to be mediocre? Same applies to coaches. I’m sure Maggard doesn’t have that mindset. But it’s hard to bust a coach middle of the pack when staff peers finish at or near the bottom. Money I’m sure is an issue for non revenue sports. But it didn’t mean accept less in performance.
Anything less than a championship season/NCAA appearance is irrelevant. Be it 2nd place or last, if you’re not making it to the NCAA’s you’re ULMOST making it.
Every coach got a mulligan last year. Keeping your team healthy and playing all your games last year was a 24/7 job.
In the 21-22 year, UL in the fall seasons:
Football 1st out of 10 teams
Volleyball 3rd in west, 6 in division (6th out of 12 when all mixed and tiebreakers)
Soccer 10th out of 11
X Country W 11th out of 12
X Country M 9th out of 10
And no, ULM doesn’t always finish last.
Know it’s mainly minor sports, but apathy abounds and is infectious.
Winter sports are indoor track and basketball. Expect much of the same.
