Thread: Another Napier Benefit

    Default Another Napier Benefit

I glanced at this Wikipedia page:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Napier

I think it's a safe assumption that the page is now managed largely by UF alums.

Well, to pump their program, they're calling us 'Louisiana'. They want to make him look as good as they can.

So it occurred to me that the teams who play UF likewise want to make their opponents look as good as they can: a) if they win, it's more impressive; b) if they lose, it gives them more cover.

It will be interesting to see if, despite intense lobbying by our Beloved Sister School to the East, the SEC, and following their lead, the other major conferences, drop the 'Lafayette' and the second 'L'.

Our own success is propelling that aspect, as is ESPN. But Billy's success just might accelerate it.

Been saying something similar for years. The quickest way to get the brand we want is to beat those who refuse.

Another reason to schedule up in all sports. Pretty soon, they’re our peers. The company you keep…

I just checked the University of Houston for our basketball game vs the Cougars on Tuesday and they still refer to us as LA Lafayette.

UH has always had a inferiority complex because of how they were treated by the leaders of SWC decades and decades before.

    >>……The NO Bowl will be VERY IMPORTANT with the name situation……the LOUISIANA name has to be pushed big time starting last week…the SID dept needs to get off their rear and do everything it can (nationally, regionally, and of course in NO to blanket the name)…btw every sports guy around will be playing the extra L and Lafayette song…go visit the newspaper, radio, and tv folks…buy them a po boy! If they call us the wrong name question them politely……explaining the athletic name as used by major news is Louisiana and the confusion with the Other Lafayette school!

If you ask those brilliant minds 70 miles west, they’ll tell you it’s because Mr. Casino loves Lake Charles so much and it’s part of his support for McLeast.

It’s important for our branding to have Louisiana written in the Superdome football field end zones.

It seems like we won this battle. ESPN and other national media uses Louisiana. Heck once in a great while you see UGA for Georgia. It doesn’t hurt to stay vigilant. We absolutely must have Louisiana on the end zone of the Super Dome.

Well, it's kind of the other way 'round. UH was not taken into the B12 partly because their attendance numbers had dropped some.

But a big reason was because the rest of the SWC despised them. Think UT arrogance, without the money & snooty confidence.

    Or think LTU with success.

After Babb et cie. staged one of the biggest comebacks I've seen at UL, in Houston, against a pretty good Cougars team, the UH fans, including some jackrabbit journalist in their school newspaper, were just basse-classe. No sense of southern hospitality, no graciousness in a loss.

If we're targeting the B12, that is a trepidation on my part. with the oil field ties, UH is the school that would most likely become our rival.

    A lot of truth Fun.

Mrs Express and I were at that game. We had some pancakes later at I-Hop. It’s a night I may remember into dementia.
