My biggest worry is with us being able to find quality assistant coaches to come on board. It sure seems like assistant coaches who have the talent and ambition to coach at higher levels will seek out head coaches that also have the talent and ambition to coach at higher levels. They do it in the hopes of “hitching a ride” up the ladder with the head coach.

Im not inside Des’s head, but nothing I’ve seen makes me think he’ll be looking to join that rat race.

I don’t know what Des is getting paid, but I’m sure it is peanuts compared to what Napier was making. I hope Maggard takes that extra money and uses it to raise the pay of the assistant coaches.
What Napier made when he started, or when he left?

What Cajun Rebel failed to mention is that Billy helped get the assistants more money. Placed us tops in the SBC and very high in the G5. I don’t understand why he’s implying that we’re shorting the assistants and staff.

Dr Maggard already addressed what he’s doing with the buy out money.

If this hire works out we could be the next Boise State or TCU, maybe even Utah ! It’s a big risk and a Hail Mary idk if it works out we could be the powerhouse of the G5!! I just hope it works out

Who you think has more football talent: Louisiana or Utah?

Utah, Utah State, & BYU compete partly because many of their players are Mormon, who do their 2 years of mission work first. So their players often have 2 years more physical and mental maturity.

But we have more raw talent in Louisiana.

And here's another thing, what I keep stressing, which is what Coach Dez is stressing: focus on the personnel, they'll get it done.

A lot of talent comes out of homes where there haven't been many options, and where Mama wants her son to get an education, have a strong role model, and succeed in life after football.

Texas comes waving stacks of dollar bills under the kids' noses. That will buy a lot of talent.

But it won't buy character. In fact, it will often drive character away.

Those players' Mamas want somebody they can trust to get their young men through college, and then beyond.

I think we'll be OK with Dez.
