Fair point, but I'll counter with this: If Mike didn't get this job, he was going to get another. How mad would we be if he went elsewhere, replicated what Napier and staff did here, and then went on to be a big name in college coaching?

But that is the problem for a lot of people & you can't blame them for wondering. They don't know that would have happened unless it had actually happened.

I just went back & listened to Scott's interview with Doctor Maggard. Once again, he managed to ask all the questions I had about the hire.
A) He had 4 serious candidates.
B) He did due diligence on all of them.
C) It was easy for him to be able to accomplish a full character analysis.
D) He conducted a thorough & somewhat exhaustive interview process of about 4 hours in which they discussed assistants, coordinators & resources.
E) After all of those things were concluded, then he made the decision to make the offer.

IOW it wasn't a couple of rich brothers in the corner puffing on cigars & telling Maggard in no uncertain terms we want this guy because he's a local & he's cheap & we can control him. When it is spelled out & explained in that manner, it is much much easier for all of the fan base who is of reasonably sound mind to accept the decision.

Personally my favorite thing that I heard about Desormeaux doesn't have anything to do with his coaching, or playing. It's his 3.9 GPA in school. I'd like to know what his major was. And I'm still expecting to beat the stuffing out of Marshall in the bowl game. I'm expecting that.
