Before yesterday Levi’s YPC was at a staunch 2.9. He doesn’t run when he needs to. He makes awful decisions, cannot make short to intermediate easy throws. That wasn’t on him, that was on Napier. But, we won, so no wonder nothing changed.
Many games that where way to close than they should have been can be directly attributed to Levi being coached up to be a pocket passer instead of a dual threat QB.
I agree his TALENTS where above average for G5, but we never utilized those talents. Napier pounded that square peg into a round hole. And he got away with it time and time again.
That’s my only knock on Napier was for not seeing how misused Levi was. When everyone else without their heads up their asses could see it.
I like Des, but this hire from an optical point of view looks awful for us. It screams small time, when you look at it from 30,000 feet.
But hey, Joe Paterno was a ____ty hire at some point. So was Bo Schembecler & Woody Hayes. Time will tell. I trust Maggard.
And as for Levi…he’s the NFL’s problem now.
I hate that term “optics”. It’s either good or bad. And we really won’t know for a little while. I personally am surprised and was thinking he would be OC here or somewhere or a FCS coach first, but clearly Maggard thought he was ready.
I’m sure Maggard knew there would be doubts. I’m sure he knows it’s a little out of left field for those outside the program. All word from in the program is overwhelmingly positive.
