Thread: Historic Day

  1. #1

    Default Historic Day

I wrote this on my Facebook page earlier today. What makes today special to some of the rest of you. I admit I got choked up during the post game ceremony.

As someone who's Dad helped build Cajun Field back in the early 70's, watching my alma mater won an outright conference championship on that field makes today special to me. It will become a never-forget memory. I join thousands of other Cajun fans in thanking Coach Billy Napier for what he has done for the program and wish him well as he moves on to coach the Florida Gators. That man led the way for this program to accomplish things many would laugh at if you predicted it when he came here four years ago. In a couple of years, when people will ask who is the most famous person you know, I will mention Coach Napier's name and be happy to do so. Great to see something good happen to a good person. Of course, it did not come easy as nothing worthwhile ever does. That hard work will continue as the Cajun Nation continues to build on the tradition Coach Napier started.

Here in a few days from now the Cajuns will have another Historic day when we hire the next coach to keep this momentum going.

I believe the ink may have already dried.

I have waited a long time for this, and I know Mike and Jerry have waited even longer. It was a great day at Cajun Field. I hope the success continues with the next head coach.

    It will.

    A few takeaways.

Intentionally sat in upper deck for this. Will be gone next year at this time.

Now that UGA lost, we have the second longest winning streak in FBS, only Cincinnati @ 13 tops us.

Enough teams lost ahead of us should be in the teens come tomorrow and Tuesday. Free advertising for weeks to come.

Dang good day to be a Ragin Cajun.

    I approve of these takeaways.

Thanks Don. Here is a followup post to my original FB note. Hard to believe it all when you go down the list of accomplishments.

For those that don't follow the Cajuns closely, here is a quick summary of what has happened since Coach Napier has been here-four straight Sun Belt Western Division titles, three straight double digit win seasons (usually it is only the Alabamas and Ohio States of the world on those type list), four straight bowl game invitations, 2 bowl wins, a road win against a ranked team at Iowa State last season, a record 12 consecutive victories in 2021, and a bowl win will result in the Cajuns being the only Louisiana school to be in the Top 25 rankings for 2 consecutive years. Like I said in my earlier post, most would have laughed if you said that would happen four years ago.

Winning the bowl game and then having a great retention of talent will go a long way in keeping us top drawer program.

Hopefully our new coach doesn’t have too much of a learning curve. I’m fine with top 25 again in 2022

Winning will never get old to me. I have been through too much of the other way of life. Hope it becomes routine to the young pups.
