Was reading an article in the Athletic today. Football portal numbers went from 1,700 in the 19-20 season to over 2,300 in the 20-21 season. They are predicting an increase this season, and the numbers that hit Monday are trending towards 2,500 players. That is 29+ full D1 teams at 85 scholarships.

So far, five UL players are in the portal:
OL - Matthew Anderson
DL - Dominique Ratcliff
S - Kobe Hylton
CB - Bobby Holmes
WR - Jamal Bell

So, declaring for the portal at this time....what are the implications? I thought there was a slot in the year for entering and getting picke up? Thought Billy said during a recent QB meeting that it started in May and ended in June or July. I figured the kids wanting to enter the protal would then have the opportunity to be invovled with the team in the spring if they chose to or in our case, the new staff convinced them to re-think the decision to leave. What's the deal?

Not till he meets academic requirements. He us currently enrolled.

They are not all declaring at this time. All of them have announced weeks before Billy Napier was considered for the Florida job because they weren't playing. Anderson after fall practice. Hylton is the only one announced this week and he hasn't played a down this season because he is red-shirting.

I just looked through the list of names, their are not a ton of huge names on the list for each team, mostly backups for each SBC team, but their were a couple of interesting names of former starters who have become backups and that forced them to move on, specifically a guy like Quad Brown and Destin Coates at Georgia State and a pretty good RB at Texas State in Brock Sturges as well as Marcel Murray a RB at Arkansas State. A-State probably has some of the bigger names including Anthony Switzer and Antonio Fletcher a couple of decent Safeties from A-State.
