    Default The Key now

Now that the deed is done. It hurts but life goes on. At least Napier is handling in a classy manner. The key is finding the next great coach. As a fan this is my 4th experience with having a coach hired away. It sucked when RG3 went to win a Heisman for Baylor but it was so much fun with Sumlin and Case bringing game day to Houston. Being a head coach is very tough with many different areas to manage. Recruiting, schemes and game day management require different skills. By the way the ad that turned around the Houston football program by hiring Briles and Sumlin was also named Maggard. Let’s hope Brian nails it again like he did with Napier.

Yes and no. He is a very good game planner but not as good managing the program. He shares many qualities with Hudspeth. Great promoter, especially of himself. Practices were too physical. You can do that at Ohio State but we didn’t have the depth to do it long term. Orlando was a fantastic defensive coordinator for him at Houston but he fired him at Texas. Burned bridges on way out of Houston so I am probably biased . Great at certain things but got promoted too fast. Napier was smart to get a few more years as a head man before going into the sec.
