Agreed, however, Napier also wasn't one of the highest paid, if not the highest, paid coordinator at the P5 level. My point was, I don't think you pay a first time head coach the same as we were paying Napier, when they haven't proved themselves yet.

Since Golding is already making $1.5M, Cajuns would have to pay him close to, if not more, than what Napier was making as a proven commodity here.

    Inflation has increased the price.

    You pay for the splash

The entire country would be talking about an SBC school nabbing a Bama coordinator

Rich Rodriguez will apply again. He came to talk to UL about the coaching vacancy after the 1998 season. He was the OC at Tulane during their undefeated season. According to some, Rodriguez withdrew his name because he did not feel UL was willing to make a commitment to football. UL famously hired Jerry Baldwin and Rodriguez went on to be head coach at West Virginia, Michigan and Arizona.

If we get Golding that is a big time hire. And we would keep Wes Neighbors.

Coach Napier opened the door to what is capable at UL. It's not just a desirable position that a coach can move to any lower P5 from, like other G5's, it's a position that can translate into a top P5 position, which is what UF is.

Most national pundits have already said its one of the top G5 jobs I the country. Each of the past 3 coaches have elevated the program to new heights.

Bustle did not elevate it to new heights, but elevated it out of new lows.

I tried to warn you people about this, as did someone else in leadership many years ago. Going after someone like Billy Napier who has eyes on a bigger job will keep you continuing to spin your wheels having to hire a new head coach every 3 to 4 years.

Finding someone who is comfortable with their place in Lafayette, like Bob Marlin, or even previously Jerry Baldwin, means you don’t have to keep worrying and expanding energy constantly having to hire someone new.
