The Krotz Springs man accused of killing his girlfriend last summer is out on bail. Thursday, John Snyder (left) posted $250-thousand bond in Pointe Coupee Parish where he was being held on a charge of 2nd degree murder. He was then transported to St. Landry Parish, where he posted $100-thousand bond for a charge of simple kidnapping in the case.

Davina Chapman was last seen alive with Snyder, who was her boyfriend at the time. Family and friends say Snyder took her against her will from Kelley's Tavern in Krotz Springs, her body was found several days later a few miles away from Kelley's, at the base of the 4-mile bridge in Pointe Coupee Parish.

"I couldn't believe it, I still can't believe he's walking the streets after what he's done, it's awful," said Davina's Aunt Denise Kimball.

Kimball was one of dozens of family and friends who gathered in Krotz Springs in Davina's memory Thursday night. The gathering was one part vigil, one part protest. After hearing that Snyder had posted bond in Pointe Coupee Parish, Kimball and others stood along highway 190 in Krotz Springs, waiting for Snyder to be transported to St. Landry Parish. The crowd held signs and wore pins bearing Davina's picture.

"It'll be alright, justice will prevail in the end and we have to look at it that way," Kimball said.

KATC's cameras were there as Snyder left the St. Landry Parish jail; however he declined comment. While out on bail, he'll be monitored with an ankle bracelet. Snyder is expected to go to trial in July.
