Thread: KPEL: Past, Present, Future

1420 is basically not even a dependable station when it comes to Cajuns sports. Sadly, I hear more Cajun coverage on 103.7 The Game. I don't understand it because you would think with the football team being in the midst of the most successful era we've ever had with a now nationally known coach and a basketball team that's one of the most talented we've had, they would be on it. But I guess "Winning makes a difference" doesn't apply to us.

Yep, you’re exactly right Rage. Now that the cat is out of the bag and all of the hosts have scattered, the sports talk radio scene in Lafayette is just not the same. 103.7 could take the torch but they will be trying to keep up as long as 1420 is the “flagship.” If they can take that title, it’s over for the folks at KPEL.

Outside of Foote, 103.7 personalities just suck Rp3 is a wannabe Rome clone and the guy in afternoon is unbearable.

Can’t argue that there, hence why I said the market stinks. With all of the football winning, you’d think there would be more demand for UL coverage. I remember the days when Jay would hang up on callers during “Nuttin But Cajuns” if they weren’t talking UL. He’d have B.J. Thompson on to talk recruiting and some other good coverage.

UL can not be happy with Town square...and I don't think TS corporate cares. Look for the Flagship of cajun sports to change as soon as the contract is up...

My ignorant question is, what happened? Whatever was plaguing TS had to have been something 103.7 was facing too. What was the difference?

TownSquare is more interested in building lame websites than they are in broadcasting.

Not just TS but the industry as a whole is going there.

We will all be listening to sports talk on mobile apps, I guess.

I don’t know if their higher-ups read this board but I hope they get the message that what is going on now is not for the better.

Really showing my age, I don’t remember what they called the radio stations decades ago that only aired during daylight hours and signed off and on every day. 1420 should go that route, after dark white noise is more interesting than the national guys droning.

The issue is, they have National guys on most of the day too. Sorry, I can’t get into Rich Eisen or Dan Patrick.
