Thread: KPEL: Past, Present, Future

  1. Tickets KPEL: Past, Present, Future

I know I may sound crazy, but sometimes I really long for the pre-COVID days of ESPN 1420, especially during football season, to get fan reaction and hear what the local personalities thought about the game.Has that door permanently closed for guys like Jay, Cody, and Stevie P.? I get that Foote is gone.

Unfortunately, probably so. While I have Jay on the podcast frequently, I think the most significant loss is Cody. Cody has really come into his own and is very knowledgeable. I hope to have him on the podcast more.

Yes, I do like the pod. Any chance you could get Stevie P. on? Please keep it up.

Curious to see if Stevie P. will be able to call softball this season?

Didn’t he call women’s basketball the other night? I wouldn’t see why he couldn’t call softball.

Depends on where he will be working come January.

ESPN 1420 is garbage these day, littered with way too much NBA talk on even the LOCAL shows for a radio station that is in Lafayette. Not exactly NBA territory.

He is employed by Learfield not Townsquare so he’s able to call the games.

I can’t get into the NBA. Scott occasionally has some Cajuns-related guests but then it goes to national programming. As the flagship, it’s really disappointing how low they’ve sunk.

Right now, the plan is for him to call softball as long it does not interfere with his day job. Also, he will be doing women's basketball and softball, and if there is a conflict, he will be on women's basketball.

Great idea about getting him on the podcast. Thanks for the suggestion!

The old 1420 gang have such great perspectives on Cajun sports since they’ve been around so long so I hope we can keep them on the air in some capacity, even if it is via podcasts. In an era where purple and gold are both constantly shoved in our face, it is even harder now to find coverage of the Cajuns.

Kevin Foote has a show on 103.7 FM. Show goes from 9 to 11 AM. As he is the Acadiana Advocate beat writer for the Cajuns, he discusses their teams frequently. He has sideline reporter Cody Junot on every Wednesday for example. He also discussed the Tuesday Cajuns basketball game in depth on Wednesday morning. You can get a 103.7 app on your phone and listen that way.

KPEL 1420 AM is now ESPN Lafayette. They also air on 103.3 FM now. Regarding Cajuns, Scott has Coach Napier on every Monday morning at 7:15. I imaging the basketball coaches will take that slot after football. During baseball season, you may want to listen to Brad Topham which is now at 3 on ESPN Lafayette.
