Everyone can do that now. Listen on app or radio. My question was why would they do away with local radio all together? Why not just keep it like it is?

Because any one any where can listen. There is no limit to the range of the station. There are no frequency limits.

There's only so much they are going to pay radio stations to carry their games. There is one more year on the contract with Townsquare. We'll see what happens after that.

Got you. So if went strictly streaming it would not be on the 1420, 96.5 or 107.9 app? It would be a university or learfield thing?

Yes. In the current structure anyone can listen any where. There is no limits to range the way it is done now. Why do you keep stating the obvious.

Whether I can attend in person or not, I listen to every single game on radio. Love hearing you and Top make the call every night. Also wear my cheap ear buds when I attend games so that I can still listen to you.

Even my 5 year old daughter loves listening to the Ragin Cajuns baseball games! She has no idea what’s going on, but it’s our weekend ritual during the Spring.

And, you are correct that fewer folks rely on radio. But you're way off if you think people don't listen. Many people choose to sync the radio broadcast with their tv, especially when the Cajuns are out of town. Many believe baseball is a radio sport...and lots of folks bring radios to Russo Park because things happen during the game that we can explain. (I know about that because if the producer fails to turn off the delay, we hear about it.)

And, I don't work for KPEL and haven't for two years now. They are the vessel that carries the games. They aren't "my" stations. I work for Learfield.

You asked why don't they keep it like it is now? I said they won't because terrestrial radio has limitations (frequency strength , ie coverage area, transmitter O & M etc) and there will be no upgrades. Streaming does not have those limitations and has additional advantages of being everywhere and not subject to atmospheric interference among other things. Terrestrial radio is going the way of the CRT television sets. There will still be "radio" but you will get it via streaming. I suspect in the future the University or Learfield will broadcast directly to streaming, no local radio. Have you noticed that at one time there were "affiliate" stations around the state and now there are none. Ever since KPEL went to the app there was no need for affiliate stations. Now that there is the "Varsity Network" there will be no need for broadcast radio at all. I don't know how else to explain it.

I really think details are premature. As I said, we have another year to go with Townsquare. We may renew. They may not want to. Or, vice versa. That's above my pay grade.

But I've been urging folks to download the varsity sports app. They carry the Learfield properties. It's like ESPN+ except it's for radio and it's free.

Interesting that after Katrina knocked out the cell system and power in NOLA one could still pick up radio stations nearby. On transistor radios. Crazy.

An increase in mobile bandwidth coupled with a longer delay are the only drawbacks.

ps Only someone at the game would know there is a delay.

pps Only you know if you can afford the extra bandwidth required.

You do realize that they currently stream without any limitations right? You sure do waste a lot of time trying to explain something that has been in existence for several years now.
