Love seeing a LHP in the class.
This is more great news for our softball program! Softball for the foreseeable future is going to be bright. With the addition of a national power in JMU to our conference we are in for some exciting softball.
Any feedback on how recruiting is handled? Is Glasco the primary recruiter or do Prejean and Robichaux travel and recruit, as well? I would assume Myers isn't allowed, as a volunteer coach.
For the second consecutive year, Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball head coach Gerry Glasco and his staff has assembled one of the nation's top-rated recruiting classes.
On Wednesday (Nov. 10, 2021), Glasco announced the signing of six student-athletes to a National Letter of Intent who are members of the program's 2022 recruiting class which is ranked No. 11 nationally by Extra Inning Softball.
Louisiana's Class of 2022 signees, which features four individuals listed in Extra Inning's Elite 100 including three inside the Top 50, is a strong follow up to the 2021 recruiting class which was ranked No. 1 by Extra Inning Softball.
Five of the six signees have competed at the prep level in the state of Texas led by Mihyia Davis (Lovelady, Texas/Lovelady HS/Texas Bombers–Smith) and Kylei Griffin (Tyler, Texas/Chapel Hill HS/Impact Gold–Jackson) who are both ranked among the nation's Top 15 prospects.
"This class is very talented, athletically," Glasco said. "More importantly to me, is the fact that they are equally talented in the classroom and bring to our program tremendous academic achievements and future expectations.
"They are a great fit for combining with our already on-campus 2021 signing class and current roster," Glasco added. "The class has great pitching potential along with four athletes who can play outfield and catch, have elite speed, and possess power. It is a very talented group."
Each future student-athlete will enroll at Louisiana beginning in the 2022-23 academic year.
Below are capsules for each signee:
Mihyia Davis
OF | Lovelady, Texas | Lovelady High School
Travel Team: Texas Bombers – Smith
Extra Inning Softball Rank: No. 11
A first team all-district, team Offensive MVP and a Texas all-state softball selection, Davis produced a .561 average over 98 plate appearances with 46 base hits, 55 runs scored, and 25 extra base hits (10 doubles, six triples, nine home runs) playing for Smithville (Texas) High School in spring 2021.
Davis is a slapper who can bunt to get on base, turn an infield hit into a single and then steal second and third to make it a triple, and also has the power to drive the ball out of the park. Last summer, she had 22 doubles hitting fifth in the order for the Texas Bombers.
Glasco's Point of View
"An athlete who committed to me back in eighth grade, Mihyia has continued to work hard and has developed into an extremely fast and talented player.
She could have gone anywhere, yet chose Louisiana! We are beyond excited to see her in the Ragin' Cajuns uniform."
Kylei Griffin
IF | Tyler, Texas | Chapel Hill High School
Travel Team: Impact Gold – Jackson
Extra Inning Softball Rank: No. 12
Twice named to Texas' all-state softball squad and the reigning All-East Texas Offensive Player of the Year, Griffin has hit .500-plus and posted 20-plus RBI each year of her prep career. Last spring, she hit .567 with five home runs and 22 RBI for Chapel Hill (Texas) High School highlighted by a .609 on-base percentage, 17 stolen bases and only one strikeout the entire season.
The current senior also showed her prowess over the summer for the Impact Gold as she compiled a .432 batting average and led the club team with 13 home runs and a team-best 60 RBI.
Glasco's Point of View
"Another Top 15-ranked recruit, Kylei is an infielder who can play shortstop or anywhere on the dirt. She is an extremely talented offensive player that we believe can make a tremendous impact on our program early in her career.
An extremely competitive personality and a huge desire to win are two of the things I most appreciate about her."
Chloe Riassetto
LHP | Friendswood, Texas | Friendswood High School
Travel Team: Houston Hotshots Premier
Extra Inning Softball Rank: No. 37
The reigning Texas District 22-5A Pitcher of the Year, Riassetto is a lefthander who earned Extra Inning Softball All-Summer Team honors for the 16-U age division in 2021 following an unbeaten performance for Nate Nelson's PGF-winning team, going 15-0 with 85 strikeouts in 101.1 innings and compiling a 1.17 ERA against many of the best teams in the travel ball circuit.
Now a senior at Friendswood (Texas) High, she posted an 8-2 mark with a 1.46 ERA and had 77 strikeouts in 67-1/3 innings as a junior in spring 2021. Riassetto was a standout at the onset of her prep career, finishing 12-3 with a 2.09 ERA in the circle coupled with a .471 average and 37 RBI at the plate en route to District 22-5A MVP honors and an All-Galveston County team selection as a freshman.
Glasco's Point of View
"Chloe was a key pitcher on Nathan Nelson's 16-U team that won the PGF national championship in August. The most impressive thing about her performance during the summer was that she didn't lose a game the entire travel ball season.
You have an extremely talented left-handed pitcher who has been well-coached and understands how to win on the softball diamond. That's a great combination, and our staff is excited to have such a talented arm being added to our staff in the near future."
Cecilia Vasquez
IF | New Waverly, Texas | New Waverly High School
Travel Team: Houston Hotshots Premier
Extra Inning Softball Rank: No. 55
A member of New Waverly's varsity squad four years running, Vasquez has competed at shortstop and catcher for the Bulldogs. She earned first team all-district honors and was named the team's Offensive MVP following a junior season in which she batted .600 with 23 extra base hits, 21 RBI, 42 runs scored and 26 stolen bases – all over a span of only 81 plate appearances.
Vasquez has displayed incredible plate discipline throughout her career with no strikeouts over 95 plate appearances as a freshman and none over 53 trips in the COVID-shortened 2020 season, followed by only two strikeouts in her junior season.
The New Waverly Female Athlete of the Year as a freshman, Vasquez has been called the "Ozzie Smith of softball shortstop in her class" by Houston Hotshots Premier travel ball coach and Ragin' Cajuns baseball great Nathan Nelson.
Glasco's Point of View
"Cecilia is one of the elite middle infielders in the country. She's a winner and great teammate who has been part of multiple national championship teams for Ragin' Cajuns great Nathan Nelson and his Houston Hotshots organization.
She has played for Nelson's group since 10-and-under and is an extremely smart player with an enormous softball IQ."
Lauren Allred
IF | Texarkana, Texas | Texas High School
Travel Team: Louisiana Bombers
Extra Inning Softball Rank: No. 110
A two-sport standout for Texas High School (also competes in volleyball), Allred has seen time at third base and catcher for the Tigers' softball squad. She's twice been named the Texas District 15-5A MVP, winning the award in 2019 and 2020, and last spring was a first team selection on the all-district squad at catcher.
Allred's potential was on full display during her freshman season in 2019 as she batted .622 with 16 doubles, a triple and seven home runs, plus 46 runs scored and 43 RBI. As a result, Fox Sports Texarkana named her the 2019 Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year on its Texarkana City All-Star Team.
Glasco's Point of View
"Lauren is an infielder who can catch, sports a huge arm and has a powerful left-handed bat – the characteristics that make her stand out on the softball field.
She is also an outstanding student academically, and will make a huge impact on our program from an academic standpoint as well."
Kyleigh Pitzer
RHP | Mt. Juliet, Tenn. | Wilson Central High School
Travel Team: Fury Platinum X – Higdon
Extra Inning Softball Rank: No. 112
Pitzer, who reached 500 career strikeouts by the completion of her junior season, earned District 9-3A Pitcher of the Year honors and helped lead Wilson Central HS to the district title in spring 2021.
A 2021 Tennessee Softball Coaches Association all-state team selection, Pitzer has played travel ball with Chattanooga-based Fury Platinum.
Entering her senior year, Pitzer is ranked within the Top 10 percent of her graduating class, has achieved a 4.0-plus GPA and is a member of the 30-plus ACT club.
Glasco's Point of View
"Kyleigh's tools could really allow her to develop into one of the elite arms in our program over her career. She's another extremely gifted student-athlete in the classroom, like Lauren Allred, who has among the highest academic test scores of any of the athletes I have ever recruited.
She is from the same Tennessee travel ball program that Sophie Piskos came from, so we have enormous expectations for her over the next four or five seasons."
Coach Glasco, Coach Lacy and Coach Robe all recruit.

The signing class came in ranked #11th in the nation after the previous class ranked #1 in the nation. This was a small class, if they would have had a few more kids to sign it would have been easily a top 5 class. Read the link below, we have some big time players that will be on campus in the future. Nice to see my buddy Nathan Nelson turning out quality athletes on the field and in the class room. Looks like we have that Hotshot pipe line flowing to Lousiana. In Coach Glasco we trust.
