I've never hear Marlin called a jerk.

I only know that the main focus of teams that UL should be courting isn't scheduling teams they can beat.

Instead they want to schedule opponents that will boost their RPI, give them a ROI and ROE, a return on their experience

UL is so busy scheduling down, it makes them unattractive when they try to schedule up.

I’m hoping something like this can be set up. I want to see the SBC become a league that can possibly get an at large bid every other year or so. But with our scheduling it’s not even possible to get a 9-12 seed.

I'll never say never, but I think now a 12 is the only thing a mid major is going to get. I remember one year Gonzaga had a great season but got a 13. It wasn't until they did it consistently that their seeding got the benefit of the doubt.

However, you do have to schedule well even to get that 13 seed. None of our league teams do that.

SF Austin got a 9 seed after winning the SLC tournament and regular season championship at some point in the 21st century. A 9 seed is generally a at large bid. I’ve often wondered if they would have gotten that bid had they lost the final game in the SLC tournament. WKU got an at large bid when Marty won the SBC title. Just an couple of times that at large and fair seeding were involved.

I want to say Commissioner Benson wanted a challenge with CUSA but they declined. I do believe an effort by the current commissioner would be worth it. I know our coaches would certainly be in favor.

And,I"m willing to bet if the NET had been used instead of the RPI, there is no way SFA would have gotten a 9 seed. (They did have a very special year and did beat some power teams.)

These are all correct, but I think what you are missing is that the A5 conferences are continually making changes: RPI, Quadrant, NET, to limit the ability of at large bids going to non-A5 schools for March Madness.

Although the Cinderella stories DRIVE the March Madness bus, the A5 schools want more of that $$$$ slice of pie. For the foreseeable future, multiple bid non-A5 leagues, have been and will continue to trend down.

Okay,okay different days, different era. So I’m curious is the answer to double down with crappy opponents, hope to play great three days in March. Screw our fans. Then hell yeah just refurbish Blackham, add an outside corridor and pump in ac & heat put a bunch of chair backs. We good!!
