On Thursday March 25, 2010 at approximately 10:50am Lafayette Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 9400 Block of West Congress Street in reference to a traffic accident. Upon arrival deputies discovered that a 2006 Chevy pickup truck traveling north on West Congress failed to negotiate a left hand curve. The truck went through a field and stuck a mobile home. The driver of the vehicle 64 year old Rodney Laniter from Rayne was trapped in the vehicle and unresponsive. There was no one else in the vehicle or the Mobile Home. Acadian Ambulance arrived on scene and advised the driver had no signs of life, and pronounced deceased. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
