Thread: Midweek Games

    UL Football Midweek Games

I went through all the midweek games played and scheduled to play this year. We have a right to b$itch but so does CCU and App. Of the 13 games played midweek it involved 21 Sunbelt teams. Five games were out of conference. Here is the breakdown of how many games played by each team:

    CCU - 5 games, 3 home games
    App - 4 games, 3 home games
    UL - 4 games, 3 home games
    AState - 2 games, 2 home games
    USA - 2 games, 2 home games
    GSouthern - 1 game, 0 home game
    Troy - 1 game, 0 home game
    GState - 1 game, 0 home game
TxSt and ULM - 0 midweek games

21 possible games with 10 teams means almost every team should only play 2 midweek games. Hopefully with our new members the number of midweek games will be spread out more, especially with some of the name brands coming in.

Being a 40+ year old I don't mind midweek games if they are on Thursday. I've always thought Thursdays are a college football night and I really don't mind them! The other nights... not so much.

I agree with you though... we'll see how things shake out after all these moving parts are finally done.

ESPN wants the cream of the G5 crop playing on its featured weekday games. The only solution to avoid this issue right now is to suck. That is not really a good alternative. At the G5 level, when you are good, you play weekday games on TV and you lose your good coaches. Price of the success.

Is SBC payout to conference members prorated?

SBC should compensate each team that plays midweek. A financial incentive to improve their product.

I should clarify my above numbers does include Friday games. So I should change the thread name to non-Saturday games.

No we are actually giving JMU 600k a year during their transition year

A team who garners a mid week game should get a bonus for showcasing the conference before any money is divided up. That would be only fair.

In regards to media revenue and midweek games, I’d like to see the conference adopt a model where let’s say 70% of the yearly media revenue is divided amongst all schools evenly, and then the remaining 30% is divided up amongst teams based on how many home non-Saturday games they have to host. So Coastal, App, UL would get 13.43% each, stAte and SouthAl would get 11.29%, and GS, GSU, Troy, Tx St, and ULM get 7% each. Note that currently the 10 teams split it evenly and get 10% each. So us, Coastal, and App would get close to 3.5% above our typical media distribution percentage which would help lessen the loss of gameday revenue from the non-Saturday games.

That would certainly lessen the inequity.

As long as it’s not a short week for the Thursday night game then yeah it’s ok.

That would require either (a) back to back breaks of 12 and 9 days or (b) two weekday games in a row . . . do we really want either of those?
