Midweek Games

Being a 40+ year old I don't mind midweek games if they are on Thursday. I've always thought Thursdays are a college football night and I really don't mind them! The other nights... not so much.

I agree with you though... we'll see how things shake out after all these moving parts are finally done.

That would require either (a) back to back breaks of 12 and 9 days or (b) two weekday games in a row . . . do we really want either of those?

In regards to media revenue and midweek games, I’d like to see the conference adopt a model where let’s say 70% of the yearly media revenue is divided amongst all schools evenly, and then the remaining 30% is divided up amongst teams based on how many home non-Saturday games they have to host. So Coastal, App, UL would get 13.43% each, stAte and SouthAl would get 11.29%, and GS, GSU, Troy, Tx St, and ULM get 7% each. Note that currently the 10 teams split it evenly and get 10% each. So us, Coastal, and App would get close to 3.5% above our typical media distribution percentage which would help lessen the loss of gameday revenue from the non-Saturday games.

Agree also. The teams being marketed by ESPN on weeknights is good for the conference, in even the individual schools by getting our names out there; but at a cost of lost weekend game revenues and our fan base. There should definitely be a way to balance that loss. No different than bowl participants getting more revenue to cover added expenses as opposed to teams staying home during bowl season.
It’s not like you are rewarding the teams, it more so off setting expenses or lost revenue.

That sounds like a good idea now, but what happens if UL has a few years where we are not a desirable team to be placed in those games? We might not have the same opinion at that time!

SBC should compensate each team that plays midweek. A financial incentive to improve their product.

Due to the cyclical nature of success at the G-5 level, leave it alone. I’d hope we’d never be Texas State/ULM desirable, but it happens. Obviously we have a brand and culture people want to see. Isn’t that our objective?

Notice the common thread of those with one game…a road game. Be thankful. I get it, Saturdays are great for the fans. Success comes with a price.

Just so you know that in the last 10 seasons, we have only gone two years (2015, 2018) where we did not host a non-Saturday game. If we truly believe in what Billy is building here, then as fans we should expect to be a desirable team going forward, and hold our athletics department accountable if we are not.
