On March 24, 2010 Deputies with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office responded to an attempted purse snatching at 1506 Center Street, business of Family Dollar. Deputies were able to apprehend one of the two suspects involved in the incident. After conducting an investigation Deputies learned that a female Age 49 was exiting the Family Dollar when she was approached by two males who then grabbed her purse and attempted to wrestle it from her person. The victim advised she shouted for help as she attempted to fight off the suspects.
An individual nearby stated he heard the victim screaming for help and observed the two males attempting to steal the victim's purse. The witness then approached the suspects and shouted at them instructing them to let the female go. The witness was able to deter the suspects who then fled the area on foot.
Deputies arrived on scene and observed the two males running from the area. They were able to apprehend one of the males, a 15 year old juvenile from New Iberia. The Juvenile was taken into custody, issued a summons for attempted purse snatching and simple assault. He was then released to the custody of his mother.
