OK, I'll weigh here since there are so many folks offering opinions.
If we are able to keep LL2 from tranfering out, I predict he'll be our starter next year. I know the Chandler fans won't agree, but LL2 is a special talent. Check his HS tape on 247 sports if you haven't already. The only thing that may keep him from being QB1 is if Billy isn't comfortable with his grasp of the offense or he's prone to TO's. I do know he came in with a preconceived notion that he would start this season and that's not how you endear yourself to the staff or his teammates, especially with the type of leader LL is on our team. But, I also heard from a couple of coaches that he's made big strides after getting acclimated to the cULture. LL2 is a DUAL threat QB and was rated as the #4 in the country coming out of HS. He's not overly tall, 6'1", but that's 3 inches taller than CF and that does make a big difference throwing form the pocket. If you take a look at the young OL we currently have on the roster and the commits for this season, you're looking at 6'7", 6'8", 6'9". Try throwing over the middle from the pocket when you are 5'10". I'm not talking about long balls over the middle, just the 8-10 yarders that keep the chains moving. Or, how about a slant route where the objective is to throw it low and in front of the receiver. The little I've seen from CF is impressive and he can run it a little too. He's not been in a pressure situation so not sure how he will hold up, but some of you that saw him play in NOLA would have a better handle about that. I don't think our passing game will improve dramatically with another short QB. LL does miss some easy passes from time to time, but he does come up with the goods in pressure sitatuions most times. CF does look like a better passer, but won't scare anyone with his running ability like LL does. So that's the trade off, and if his legs are not a weapon, then you are still stuck with a short QB throwing from the pocket. Some will say Drew Brees was short. Well, Drew Brees was Drew Brees....he's a generational QB and Sean Payton had to create passing lanes for him to be effective. That's why their middle 3 OL had to be stout because pressure up the middle caused beaucoup problems for a short QB. Tom Brady throws it downward over the middle at times....must be nice to be that tall and accurate!
I also like Hunter Herring's size at 6'4" with good running ability, another dual threat. I'd love to see what Ben Wooldridge would do with our receiving corp in a game that counts. I think we have the best group of receivers in our program's history, but Billy likes to run it and control the ball, and that seems to work out pretty well.
I've also heard the we have a commit coming in next year from Madison Prep. Zeon Chriss, another dual threat at 6'1". He'll need to tighten up his throwing mechanics but this is another special talent when running.
So yes, I think Billy is going to look for dual threat QB's going forward because he likes running the ball and they present big problems for opposing defenses. Our defense has had problems with dual threat QB's as well. So, it's better to have several of them on the roster in case of injury. IMO, I don't think CF will be the guy next season.
