Thread: Don't Look Now...

    Default Don't Look Now...

But sitting at 2nd Place in the SBC West, behind your Louisiana Ragin Cajuns, is the ULM Warhawks. I honestly wouldn't have thought this at the beginning of the season, but they are currently sporting a 2-2 conference record, and 4-3 overall.

I am expecting (and hoping for) App State to defeat them this coming Saturday. However, don't be surprised if it is a close game, as I would expect App State to have a "letdown game" after their defeat of #15 Coastal, similar to our "letdown" game vs. Arky State. It happens, but App State should still come out of this weekend with another W.

If ULM can win two out of their next four (thinking losses to App State and LSU, though an improbable upset over the Tigers would be fun and good for our conference), then they'll come into Cajun Field on Turkey Day Weekend 6-5 with some confidence and a shot at a 7th win. We'll need people to show up to the game to give us that hopeful homefield advantage, because The Fighting Bowdens will be gunning for us, especially if we're fortunate enough to still be undefeated in conference play at that time.

    Interesting Stat:

In conference games, ULM has a 2-2 record, but they've scored 97 points and have given up 167 in those four games. Meanwhile, South AL (ULM defeated 41-31 this past weekend) who sits 4th in the SBC West standings has scored 121 points while giving up only 108 in their four conference matchups.

Last 2 games ULM was......good football. Rare, but their games were well played & entertaining. Timing for ULM to improve couldn't have been better with LTURd 30 miles away swirling slowly down into the toilet bowl with a 2-5 record and in a loser conference.

You know, with the SBC getting stronger in football, both now in perception as much as reality, I do wonder of some of the alumni support and dollars that kept being sent to Baton Rouge might start staying in Monroe. I always thought Todd Berry was a good coach, but he was having to operate with damn near zero resources, his hands tied like Stokley's were, and even Baldwin's and early Bustle years.

Unfortunately, there is a trend... over the last 8 games....It looks like they're due.

    Since 1991, they've won 8 in Lafayette.

Interesting that since 2006 ULM has not won in Monroe. ULM's only wins and the tie were in Lafayette. My perception is that we have dominated the series recently, however, since 2006 UL has only won 3 times in Lafayette.

What ULM has is a very experienced staff that is getting the maximum effort out of their talent. Coach Bowden is a player's coach and Rich Rodriguez can game plan with the best of them and has been doing so for many years now.

They still lack talent at a number of positions, but they have enough to concern you on both sides of the football. But they have not played with the same emotion and results on the road.

The bottom line for the Cajuns is if we play up to our potential, there is no one left on the schedule that we cannot defeat. My concern is outside of a few halfs and the game against App. State, we have not played well.

Speaking of schools in North Louisiana. Could all the university of Louisiana schools force Tech to change their name to the University of Louisiana in Ruston? ULR? It would be real funny.
