Thread: Tuesday night game comes with pros and cons for Louisiana

  1. UL Football Tuesday night game comes with pros and cons for Louisiana

Maggard isn’t sure what the price of playing Appalachian State on a Tuesday, not a Saturday, will be.

UL has never played host to App State on a Saturday during his tenure as athletic director

We've sacrificed three (3) Saturday home games, not to mention a fourth road game to be played on a weekday.

Do we get a bigger cut of the TV contract than other teams in the conference?

With goooood "Louisiana Saturday Night" marketing, Athletics could have made double what the ESPN Sunbelt contract is paying.

Still not happy with the Ohio game move but conference game we cant do much about it.

We get 1.3 to 1.4 mill from espn compared to CUSA's 200k. We would have to average an additional 19k fans at those 3 games at $20 a ticket to make up that shortfall.

Contract with ESPN also allows the non football sports to be available to be seen by fans throughout the year on the plus. Volleyball this past weekend is an example. That is an advantage of the contract we overlook at times. Something that I don't think is available to CUSA.

You are trying get the money back in a single season.

The only way to grow the fan base to an additional 19,000 is to continuously hold Louisiana Saturday Night events over multiple seasons and generations.

Weekday events have the opposite effect.

ps Taking back concessions and apparel sales would also help.

The problem is the SBC will likely always have the weekday game schedules and we will be screwed for Saturday games. We'll never achieve the attendance figures we want playing on Tuesday nights.

There is a very simple solution to almost never having a weekday game. Have a program that mimics ULM with fanbase and W-L record. They almost never have a weekday game.

    See how simple that is....

Thank you. So much of life is much more simple than we make it out to be.

The problem with the AAC is they play on Fridays too. Their 2021 schedule shows 8 Thursday games and 9 Friday games over the course of the season. Cincinnati has 3 of those Friday games and 2 of them are at home.

I would take a game on Friday 11 out of 10 times over a Tuesday night.

I was told the benefits we receive from the media exposure and conference media money for playing national week night games on ESPN, are still monetarily better than all the revenue the athletic department takes in on playing a game on Saturday.

If we are taking about game day fan experience, I don't think anyone would argue that playing on a week night is better. But those are two entirely different discussions, game day experience and monetary funds for our athletic department.

For the record, I believe that college football should be played on Saturday's during the regular season. That is what made college football more of a fan and family traditon for decades.
