  1. UL Basketball Louisiana Men’s Basketball to Face Alabama in Charity Exhibition

Louisiana Men's basketball will face Alabama a preseason charity exhibition game at 2 p.m. on Oct. 24 in Tuscaloosa, Ala., the two programs announced on Wednesday.

Proceeds generated by the contest will be donated to the United Way of West Alabama.

The teams will play a full 40-minute regulation competition with no television or radio broadcast. Tickets to the game will be available soon.

The matchup will serve as a tune-up for the Ragin' Cajuns before the team's regular-season opener against West Florida at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 9 in the Cajundome.

The programs have previously squared off four times during the regular season with Alabama winning each of the meetings. Last season, the Crimson Tide advanced to the Sweet 16 before falling to Final Four participant UCLA.

Men's Basketball season tickets for the 2021-22 season are on sale now, with prices beginning as low as $100. For more information, fans can call the Louisiana Athletics Ticket Office at (337) 265-2170

I’m wondering if we even asked for a return trip for one of our charities.

Our coaches definitely believe Alabama will be the best team they will face the entire season. Great opportunity to see where you stand against quality competition. Although there will be no radio or TV as this is an exhibition, we should be able to get some post game statistics. May give us some insight as to individual potential. Bet everyone plays and with 16 guys on team, it may be tough to project best rotation from result. Usually even the statistics release is not allowed in these pre season scrimmages as they are generally “secret”. Reason this one can be publicized is the charity tie in. Fans wiil be allowed and proceeds from tickets go to charity. You are allowed two pre season scrimmages. I wonder if another will be held. In the past, when we have hosted these, they have been held at EKL gym in order to keep it quiet. A team scrimmage open to the public has also occurred in the past. I don’t know what else is planned for pre season this year.

LSU is going to Nicholls. Seems like we should have been able to work something out.

Maybe the beginning of a relationship between programs? I like it.

Originally ALabama said they were going to do radio and so we planned to do it as well. Just three days ago we found there would be no broadcast. Bummer. I was looking forward to it.

That is unfortunate. Cajun FB plays the previous Thursday at Arkansas State so there would be no conflict in that regard for you as a broadcaster. Also, the Saints play at Seattle on Monday night that weekend. You may have had a decent radio audience for a 2 PM Sunday afternoon exhibition. Wonder why Alabama backed off the radio. Perhaps that is not allowed for exhibitions by some entity. Has to be a reason for that decision, just don't know what it would be.

I seems like the radio broadcast could be used as a call in prompt to raise additional funds for the charity . . . no?

I'm missing something. Was it a condition of their willingness to play? Why would Alabama's broadcast decision dictate what occurs here?

I don’t think any broadcasts are allowed per NCAA rules since it’s a “secret” scrimmage. Only reason people allowed in is for charity purposes.
